MUSIC AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE

Description

To promote music in the Air Cadet Movement, the Air Cadet League of Canada (ACL) has established annual Music Awards for outstanding Air Cadet Musicians.

Two awards are presented annually, one each to an outstanding:

• Air Cadet Pipe Band Musician
• Air Cadet Military Band Musician

The application period will run from 1 September to 30 September.                 

Criteria

• The Music Awards are open to members of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets during the year of application and are awarded based on music abilities combined with community service and outstanding performance as an Air Cadet.
• The Cadet must have completed a minimum of two years of continuous service as a member of an Air Cadet Pipe or Military Band by the date of nomination.
• Achieved music level 3 or above.
• Has the recommendation of their Commanding Officer.

Procedure

The cadet will be responsible for getting all required documents (before completing the form)

• Music Awards Application Form ACC58 and supporting documents must be received no later than September 30^th.

• Prepare a 300-word statement on his goals and aspirations and why he should be considered for this award.

• Provide by video a sample of TWO pieces of music that he will play, along with printed music score for the pieces. In the video, the cadet should properly introduce themselves including the name of the pieces they will perform.

• Include a joint Recommendation letter from CO and SSC Chair.

Once the cadet has all required documents, he will complete the online form and attach the documents. The CO will receive a link to confirm rank, enrolment date, summer courses, and extra curricular activities and approve the application. Once approved, the cadet SSC Chair and CO will receive an email confirming that the application is complete.

The Office will verify all documents received to confirm that the application is complete. 

The National Air Cadet Scholarships and Awards Committee, in conjunction with the National Music Committee, will consider all eligible candidates. The Chairperson of the Committee will announce the names of the award recipients at the Fall Virtual Awards Ceremony or at the Semi-Annual Meeting of the ACL in late Fall.

The winners will be asked to provide a photograph or digital image (in uniform) for publicity and a Thank You letter addressed to the donor.

Recipients of the ACL Annual Music Awards will be presented with a certificate, a financial award from the ACL and a financial award from our sponsor, Long & McQuade Musical Instruments, at an appropriate time determined by the Chair of the Provincial / Territorial Air Cadet League and the Squadron Sponsoring Committee Chair. Award funds will be sent electronically to the recipient. The cadet will be provided with a T4A income tax form for the financial award in February of next year.

CHECK INFORMATION TO ENSURE ALL REQUIRED INFORMATION AND REFERENCE LETTERS ARE INCLUDED AND CORRECT. THE COMMITTEE WILL ONLY REVIEW INFORMATION RECEIVED.

IT IS THE CADET’S RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK WITH HIS/HER COMMANDING OFFICER THAT HE/SHE HAS COMPLETED HIS/HER PART.
