Since 1975, many female air cadets have joined in, such as MP Leona Alleslev.
Leona Alleslev was in 832 Twillick Squadron in Ottawa and 191 West Winnipeg Rotary Squadron. She attended the Junior Leaders course at Penhold Air Cadet Camp in 1983 and then attended the Senior Leaders course at CFB Cold Lake in 1984. She was a Junior Leaders course staff at both Gimli Cadet camp (1985), and Penhold Air Cadet Camp (1986). She finished her Air Cadet career as a warrant officer 1st class. Leona went on to graduate from Royal Military College and became an Air Force Logistics Officer. After a career in the Aerospace industry as a senior manager, as well as working for DND, Leona decided to continue to serve her country as a Member of Parliament. She now represents the riding of Aurora—Oak Ridges—Richmond Hill where she lives with her husband Ted, a pilot, and two children. Leona’s father, Ian Alleslev, was an Air Cadet as well. He went on to become a Two-Star General and inspired Leona to join Cadets as it was a clear path to leadership. Leona’s daughter Hillary is continuing the family tradition of being a proud Air Cadet and she is currently the rank of LAC.
