The Air Cadet League of Canada Announces 2017 Birchall Scholarship Recipient

OTTAWA, ON (May 19, 2017) – The Air Cadet League of Canada (ACL) congratulates Warrant Officer First Class (WO1) Justin Pymento who has been awarded the $2,000.00 Air Commodore Leonard J. Birchall and Mrs. Kathleen Birchall Scholarship.

WO1 Pymento from 110 Blackhawk Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron in Toronto, Ontario, has shown great leadership within the Air Cadets but also outside of the program. He is recognized for his academic excellence, his dedication to cadets and his initiative.  WO1 Pymento plans to attend McMaster University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences. He plans on furthering his studies after that by applying to the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine and to the Canadian Forces Medical Officer Training Program in hopes of becoming a Flight Surgeon.

Sarah Matresky, ACL Executive Director, says “the Air Cadet League of Canada is proud to be able to offer this scholarship and we acknowledge with thanks and appreciation the late Air Commodore Leonard J. Birchall and Mrs. Kathleen Birchall for their generous donation which has made this scholarship possible.”

The Air Cadet League of Canada is a civilian non-profit community based and volunteer led organization, which in collaboration with the Department of National Defence and our other partners, is dedicated to supporting the objectives of the Royal Canadian Air Cadet program, and to developing in youth the attributes of good citizenship and leadership; promoting physical fitness; and stimulating the interest of youth in the aviation and aerospace industry, including the air element of the Canadian Forces.
